Does It Matter Whether I Filed Chapter 7 or Chapter 13?
Both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filers are required to complete the debtor education course. The course content is the same regardless of which chapter you filed. The difference is in the deadline for filing your completion certificate with the court.
Chapter 7
Chapter 7 is a liquidation bankruptcy that eliminates most unsecured debts. Your certificate must be filed with the court within 60 days after the date first set for your 341 meeting of creditors. Most Chapter 7 cases move quickly — complete the course as soon as your case is filed.
Chapter 13
Chapter 13 is a repayment plan bankruptcy where you pay back debts over three to five years. Your certificate must be filed with the court before you make your final plan payment. Because your case spans multiple years, you have more time — but do not wait until the end. Complete the course early and have the certificate ready.
The Course Itself
The course is identical for both chapters. You select your chapter type during enrollment — the information is included on your certificate and must match your actual filing.

Frequently Asked Questions
I selected the wrong chapter during enrollment. What should I do? Let us know right away. If your certificate has not been issued, we can correct the information before it is generated. If it has already been issued, do not file an incorrect certificate with the court — let us know and we can help.
I am converting my case from Chapter 13 to Chapter 7. Do I need to take the course again? Consult your attorney. In most cases, a certificate already obtained remains valid, but the filing deadline under Chapter 7 would apply. Your attorney can confirm the requirement for your district.
My attorney handles everything — do I still need to tell Bankruptcy Logic which chapter I filed? Yes. You enter your chapter type during enrollment. Use the same chapter that appears on your filed bankruptcy petition.
