How Long Does the Debtor Education Course Take?
The Personal Financial Management Instructional Course has a federally mandated minimum length of 2 hours. The course system enforces this minimum — you cannot complete the course in less than 2 hours regardless of how quickly you read.
How the Time Works
There are no per-section timers. You move through the content at your own pace. The 2-hour minimum applies to the course as a whole and is tracked by the system automatically.
You do not need to complete the course in a single sitting. You can take breaks, log out, and return later. Your progress is saved at the completion of each topic.
What Affects Total Time
Most people complete the course in 2 to 3 hours. The actual time depends on:
How quickly you read through the material
Whether you take breaks between sessions
How many attempts are needed on the final exam
Joint Filers
Both spouses must individually complete the course. Each may take it at a separate time or together — whichever works best. Plan for at least 2 hours per person.
